The emergence of evangelical power in the Philippines: a case study of a Born Again denomination religious group in the Philippines

L’émergence du pouvoir évangélique aux Philippines : analyse à partir du cas particulier d’un groupe réformé Born Again

Résumé

The anti-drug war waged in the Philippines since 2016 is supported by a majority of the population. A number of former President Rodrigo Duterte's allies are defending the reinstatement of capital punishment in the archipelago. Their arguments are based on theological and political considerations. They are instruments of a new type of evangelical power in the archipelago. Based on the specific case of Born Again denomination group and part of the results of a survey conducted from 2019 until now, the article is rooted in an educational science perspective. It describes the implementation of evangelical power, as well as some of its characteristics. It also examines the change in the relationship to knowledge brought about by the implementation of evangelical doctrine. Furthermore, it examines the question of the truth of the self, which has been taken over by civil authority.
